This program provides tutoring services any New Ground student in need. This includes LTHP and JSP parents and children as well as our veterans. Our Associate Program Director and social workers review report cards regularly with parents of school aged children, as well as any adult enrolled in an education program to determine if such services are necessary. Whenever a concern arises either through grades, teacher comments, or other reports home, the student is assigned a tutor for the particular subject area in question so they can receive individualized extra help. Tutoring may take place in the family’s home, at a local library or at the New Ground office depending on what the best setting is for the work to be successful. We utilize both volunteer and paid tutors to work with our students. All tutors have educational backgrounds, with many having years of experience working as educators. New Ground staff members ensure coordination of tutor efforts with the teachers and other school personnel already working with the student to ensure the best possible outcome. Many students receive this subject-oriented tutoring in addition to the Reading All-Stars Program so they have all challenge areas well covered.
If you are interested in working as a tutor with New Ground please contact our Associate Program Director for more information.
