When Patty’s relationship with the father of her children deteriorated, she was forced to move in with family temporarily.  But when this rental home was condemned unsafe, she truly had nowhere to turn.  Patty was working fulltime, but with a limited education, she could not earn enough to support her family.  She also struggled with a chronic autoimmune disease that flared up at times, preventing her from accomplishing many long-term goals.  After coming to New Ground, Patty was given the ongoing support, resources and guidance necessary to get her life back on track.

“Because of your help and assistance, I am at a better place in my life. Every day I am grateful for all your support in my time of need. Thank you!  I will always carry you in my heart.”

With Social Worker assistance, Patty transferred previous credits and enrolled at a local community college to finish her Associate Degree.  She worked with a New Ground tutor to ensure she did well in her paralegal program.  She addressed her ongoing health issues, prioritizing doctors’ orders to keep her chronic illness in check.  A great deal of time and energy was also spent on assessment of her daughter’s learning difficulties and advocating with New Ground support to secure necessary services for academic success.  Patty also continued working and paid down debts on her credit report.

Patty graduated from New Ground into a market rent apartment after three and a half years, just a few months shy of earning her Associate Degree.  She has since completed her degree, earned a significant raise with her employer, and continues to live independently with her three girls.

“The girls are doing great! My oldest is now in high school and is really learning despite all the challenges she faced.  They are all doing well in school.  And I’m engaged!! We’ve been together for over five years, since I was with New Ground, and we are so happy.  Everything really came together for me, with all the right timing.  I was able to work on me and my goals at New Ground, and this put me in a better place.  So I was ready when the right person came along.  And all together now we are a strong and happy family.”
