Since launching our JumpStart Program in 2012, many families have used this opportunity to achieve steps toward their long-term goals that they will ultimately complete once a part of the Long Term Housing Program. However, for just a few JumpStart families receiving the intensive Social Work and Education Services from New Ground, they were able to accomplish enough to move directly into independent housing. Such was the case for Dee, a single mother of one child.
“I came into the program with a weak soul searching for growth. I never thought to have gotten what I have the few years with you guys. Please continue to guide young mothers and I pray they appreciate you just as much as I did. Now I am at a place where I can use the skills you have provided.”
Dee relocated to Texas when she realized that she would never be able to afford market rent locally, staying at first with family to get situated. When she signed her first lease, she called New Ground to share the happy news.
“I love my new home and work. My daughter is in the first grade and so happy in her new school. Thank you for teaching me how to budget and all the preparations for living on my own. I am so grateful to New Ground for teaching me these skills that I didn’t learn growing up.”
Dee became tearful, saying she looks forward to dropping in at New Ground to share more news when she returns to the area for a visit.
